Dulbecco’s phosphate-buffered saline solution (DPBS) in distilled water is a versatile solution used for various cell culture applications. It serves as a washing buffer during cell preparation and serial transfer. The phosphate buffer in DPBS helps maintain pH within the physiological range, ensuring the structural and physiological integrity of mammalian cells in vitro.
Application:
DPBS is commonly utilized in cell counting as a diluent, for cell rinsing, and as a buffer in various chromatographic procedures. It is instrumental in washing and resuspending cells during the dissociation process, where the presence of calcium and magnesium can inhibit trypsin activity. Modified DPBS, formulated without calcium and magnesium salts, is recommended for such applications to facilitate cell detachment from culture dishes.
DPBS „plus“ contains CaCl2 and MgCl2, enhancing cell binding and agglutination, which aids in cell recovery in culture dishes. On the other hand, DPBS „minus“ lacks these ions, making it suitable solely as a washing buffer for suspended cells during preparation and serial transfer.

- DPBS is offered in reduced concentration.
- Storage: RT. Be aware that it crystallizes at low temperatures.
- Adhere to the product’s storage conditions.
- Do not use the product after its expiration date.
- Store the product in a place protected from light.
- Handle the product under aseptic conditions.
- Wear suitable clothing for handling the product to avoid contamination (e.g., gloves, mask, hygiene cap, overall).
- The product is intended for in vitro use in the laboratory only. Do not use it in human therapy.
Ensure adherence to the specified shelf life:
- Shelf life when the bottle is closed: 6 months.
- Shelf life after opening: 3 months.
